Consider The Cardigan

Our favorite garment, hands down.

Cozy, trusty, practical yet unboring. The story goes that the cardigan is named after James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, a dapper British Army major general who led the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War of the mid-1800’s. Apparently worn with such military flair, it became a trend that stuck.

Although originally conceived as a men’s garment, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is credited with making the cardigan fashionable to women in the 1920’s. Favoring the look and ease of wear herself, it has remained a staple in every Chanel collection since. Take a peek at photographs of Chanel; chances are she looks smashing, and she’s sporting a cardigan. More cardigan wearers: Marilyn Monroe, Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Steve McQueen, Kurt Colbain, Daniel Craig, and let’s not forget, The Dude (The Big Lebowski).

A bonus: The Cardigans
